Pros

Great “starter company’ – if you are new to the field or just out of college, this is a great place to get a start – do not plan on staying long. Industry Leader – technically yes, but if management, policies and process do not change it will not be much longer. Centrally located Good name recognition

Cons

There are many. 1) Company is the laughing stock of most other’s in area – I have heard literally dozens of times how the interviewers at ABC company made light of the horrible treatment of employees here at Micros. It is an unfortunate truth that so many other companies know of our shortcomings, but our own management remains willfully ignorant. 2) Lack of Process – There is no documentation, no planning, no software development, no process at all. This goes for R&D, Escalation, Customer Service. So far we have had the lead, the name recognition and a massive distribution network to keep in the lead, but knee jerk reactions and an unwillingness to invest time and resources into the company will ultimately be the downfall of Micros. 3) Out of date management – unfortunately Micros resembles an age old feudal structure. There are a very few out of touch people running the company from an ivory tower with such prejudice and bias in their own views and reactions that even their own managers and directors are reluctant to inform them of any problems. The common worked will not see a raise this year (generally from 1-5 percent) but the highest up already received their raises (from 7.5 and up) as well as bonuses. 4) Employee treatment - regardless of employee perceptions there are certain standards one can count on in any other competitive company – flex time (even if limited); raise percentages that go up – micros yearly raise percentages have not changed in over 10 years; courtesy – this is a huge issue and a main problem with Micros – they are incapable of understanding that the smallest gesture of gratitude can mean more than months of berating, and yield better results.

Pros

I work in the Hotel Systems Division My managers have all been great and I like the people I work with. I think upper management honestly appreciates my efforts. I feel that I am rewarded and recognized for the work that I do. MICROS has been good to me and I feel very fortunate to be able to work there. There are many opportunities for growth and advancement. This would be a great place for a recent college grad with some hotel or restaurant experience to start a career, or for anyone with industry experience and an interest in technology. For an entry level installer position, be prepared to travel nearly 100% of the time, which can be fun and is certainly interesting. I don't know what the recent acquisition of MICROS by Oracle will mean to the future of MICROS, but I'm excited about it. I would recommend MICROS to anyone who is deemed qualified to work there.

Cons

There were some conerns in the past about the lack of culture at MICROS. Some of this was fueled by comments from disgruntled employees. The culter is much better though, and it continues to improve. It seeems like the better you are, the harder they work you. This is espcially impactful to travelling employees. The better ones hit the road while the losers sit at home. They tend to not have enough employees for the work that needs to be done, so the existing staff has to work that much harder and I think in the end it's the customers who suffer.
