Pros
The prestige of working there is the best and the celebrities and interesting people you get to meet are second to none. You get to work with seasoned professionals in management that love giving great service to guests and making sure the their work product is the best they have to offer to any potential guest. In this role there is a great deal of responsibility and also great chances to hone your ability to influence as you are not directly responsible for any of your own staff. This position also gives you major visibility within the organization as you have to reach across departments in order to execute successful events.
Cons
The union is pretty tough and they have a better hold on the management than the management has on them. There is a very adverse relationship indeed between union and management. the hours are very long however, that is to be expected in the hospitality industry. There really isn't any point in getting into the industry if you can't handle the long work hours. The quality work product and the satisfaction of teh clients tend to out weigh the long hours. Other downsides are trying to balance the needs of the sales force with the needs of the labor force.
