Pros

-Pretty good health insurance coverage (paid 85% of BCBS HMO when I was there) -2 weeks of sick time and 2 weeks of vacation (has to be accrued 6.67 hrs per month though)

Cons

-Salary is a joke, borderline offensive (way below average standard) -Very little career growth opportunities (basically have to reply on relations to get a promotion, especially in management roles) -No 401k -No HR (they have their own ombudsmen, but that's questionable) -Proprietary language and software Not that the people here are evil, but it's not really a healthy working environment. You pretty much get treated as a child that needs supervision due to the micromanagement. We are adults, trust us to get work done and be professional. Speaking of work, yes, proprietary language allows you to have full control of the software, but the software is so dated. Not to mention, there is poor documentation when it comes to learning their language, which makes it really difficult to learn and understand. I never planned to work here long, but thank god I left sooner than I had initially planned. No transferrable skills whatsoever. Don't be fooled by them when they try to convince you the lower salary is offset by the "awesome" benefits, which really isn't that great considering what's the norm nowadays for many companies. It's pretty standard for a lot of tech companies to offer health insurance (fully or mostly covered), 401k, and vacation that you can start using right off the bat as opposed to accruing.

Pros

MEDITECH is surviving, which wasn't a certainty ten years ago. Considering the low starting salaries for greater Boston, the company tends to be less selective in who they hire compared to other employers. Even with the effect that AI is having on tech hiring.

Cons

The market was MEDITECH's to lose, and they lost it. Without HCA as a customer MEDITECH would be finished. Considerations for job applicants such as inclusiveness and work/life balance are largely irrelevant, as the company's long-term prospects for success are doubtful. MaaS subscriptions don't bring in enough money to make up for the business that was lost to market leader Epic Systems. I am a MEDITECH shareholder, so I see the financial reports. Although I'm pleased that dividends continue to be paid, they are draining the company of badly needed cash to fund a turnaround.
