Pros
Meditech is a name to conjure with. Because of its unique technology and large market share, there is a large aftermarket for Meditech IT specialists and consultants. Also, it is one of the very few places today where (at this writing) lifetime employment is a real possibility. If that is important to you, this is a company to consider.
Cons
This is a very patriarchal, paternalistic company that takes care of you as long as you say yes or nothing at all and do your job. The quality of your experience depends on your lower level management. My supervisors were among the best I've ever had, but most supervisors and lower level management just don't have the experience to be good at their jobs. Despite the emphasis on lifetime employment, starting salaries and benefits are unimpressive. I feel sorry for Neil--the founder and still top man. He desperately needs someone to tell him when he's wrong, but in a privately-held and patriarchal company, that kind of advice is hard to get. It's not as bad as some people say, but it could be a great deal better. Someone said you shouldn't think of Meditech as a poorly-paid job, but as a well-paid internship. If you don't want a lifetime gig, there's something in that attitude.
