A foot in the door at most - Not a place for serious programmers - Programmer Meditech Employee Review

Pros

- Offers a decent set of vacation/personal/sick time - Company upgraded to Blue Cross Blue Shield for Health Insurance - Currently offers a hybrid work environment (COVID) but it could change at any moment (This can be considered a CON if you prefer to work remotely. I have been told that the new CEO is against the idea of ”working from home” - This could change but there is no guarantee)

Cons

- Not a place to grow as a serious programmer. Proprietary language is very limiting and is not considered "clean" to today's standards. It's "okay" as an entry level job but if you are serious about programming and what you can make in this industry, then this place would not be for you. Overall salary would be considered subpar at most compared to programming positions you’d find at other companies. To restate, you would be working with proprietary languages that do not properly put into practice (according to today's standards) - "clean code". This can be frustrating for those that have been taught clean coding techniques and would like to continue to put that into practice - be prepared to break “good habits”. The languages here also cannot be applied elsewhere. Thus if you were to transition to another company, be prepared to put in programming practice OUTSIDE of your working hours as you will not be using any applicable languages while at this company. Additional Cons: - Micromanaged -There is no HR department - they have what is called an Ombudsman that you would go to if you are having any issues - Since the new CEO took over, this company has seemingly been going south. It's hard to predict where things will go from here on out in regards to employee retention etc.

Pros

MEDITECH is surviving, which wasn't a certainty ten years ago. Considering the low starting salaries for greater Boston, the company tends to be less selective in who they hire compared to other employers. Even with the effect that AI is having on tech hiring.

Cons

The market was MEDITECH's to lose, and they lost it. Without HCA as a customer MEDITECH would be finished. Considerations for job applicants such as inclusiveness and work/life balance are largely irrelevant, as the company's long-term prospects for success are doubtful. MaaS subscriptions don't bring in enough money to make up for the business that was lost to market leader Epic Systems. I am a MEDITECH shareholder, so I see the financial reports. Although I'm pleased that dividends continue to be paid, they are draining the company of badly needed cash to fund a turnaround.
