Pros

- Coworkers and low/mid level management always friendly and willing to help - Job security, you'd have to do something egregious to be fired - Never asked to work more then 40 hours in a week. Can count on 1 hand number of times I've been called on call - Meaningful work - Better then working retail or food industry, but that doesn't say much

Cons

Almost all of the heavy cons boil down to the pay at the end of the day. Expect to make 30k+ under market value for technical staff. All of the "great benefits" here are pretty standard across the industry - Inflation, cost of living and education will be greater then even the best of pay raises here - You can make more as an entry level engineer at another company then being senior technical or supervisor here - Company sold off 2 buildings in the last couple years and increased referral bonus, but somehow still needed to put staff on a salary freeze? - CEO expects people to come into the office because it "fits their cultural values" even though I haven't met a single staff member who wants to go back in and most of their buildings are now within a single pocket of the state which is very expensive unless you want to live in Fall River or New Bedford - Company refuses to deprecate older versions of the software so you'll need to learn how to do the same thing 3-5 different ways - High turnover for mid tenured staff means that seniors are expected to support the work of 2 people and mentor new hires

Pros

MEDITECH is surviving, which wasn't a certainty ten years ago. Considering the low starting salaries for greater Boston, the company tends to be less selective in who they hire compared to other employers. Even with the effect that AI is having on tech hiring.

Cons

The market was MEDITECH's to lose, and they lost it. Without HCA as a customer MEDITECH would be finished. Considerations for job applicants such as inclusiveness and work/life balance are largely irrelevant, as the company's long-term prospects for success are doubtful. MaaS subscriptions don't bring in enough money to make up for the business that was lost to market leader Epic Systems. I am a MEDITECH shareholder, so I see the financial reports. Although I'm pleased that dividends continue to be paid, they are draining the company of badly needed cash to fund a turnaround.
