Pros

-There are some brilliant, wonderful people working at MEDITECH. I've met some of my best friends there and am proud of the work I've done with my colleagues. -Serves as a good launch pad to other careers in the medical IT and software industries.

Cons

-Upper management doesn't trust their staff to do their job and imposes a number of big-brother micromanagement tactics to track employee productivity. - Company-wide, salaries are not at all competitive with the industry. Management announced this Fall that the salary review system has been overhauled to make salaries more competitive, but early reports from my colleagues regarding their recent raises have not been promising. - The pandemic gave the company a unique opportunity to implement a full-time work-from-home option for employees, but executives (namely, the CEO) insist on making everyone return to the office in January 2022. A similar push to return to the office was attempted previously in the summer of 2021, but was postponed due to enormous pushback and employee resignations. I expect a similar mass exodus early next year if this policy remains in place. - Communication from leadership is often confusing, contradictory, and disorganized. Many times, policy decisions appear hastily-made and capricious. Mid-level management finds out about a lot of important company initiatives and mandates at the same time as their employees and often have to scramble to damage control. -MEDITECH has a reputation for supporting legacy platforms indefinitely. This stretches the development and client services resources thin as they often need to support three different platforms. It also give the company a negative reputation in the industry as many of our users have only been exposed to the old, antiquated MAGIC that looks like it was coded in 1985 (because it was). Only new customers and customers that upgrade to Expanse have a modern EHR experience.

Pros

MEDITECH is surviving, which wasn't a certainty ten years ago. Considering the low starting salaries for greater Boston, the company tends to be less selective in who they hire compared to other employers. Even with the effect that AI is having on tech hiring.

Cons

The market was MEDITECH's to lose, and they lost it. Without HCA as a customer MEDITECH would be finished. Considerations for job applicants such as inclusiveness and work/life balance are largely irrelevant, as the company's long-term prospects for success are doubtful. MaaS subscriptions don't bring in enough money to make up for the business that was lost to market leader Epic Systems. I am a MEDITECH shareholder, so I see the financial reports. Although I'm pleased that dividends continue to be paid, they are draining the company of badly needed cash to fund a turnaround.
