Pros

Teams are made up of hard-working, caring people and workload is reasonable Lower management (Direct Supervisors and Managers) are understanding and flexible Healthcare benefits are decent (were better a couple years back)

Cons

Salary is way below what it should be for this kind of work and the area. Additionally, working too long with their proprietary software can hurt career growth, for which there is barely any in the company itself, or seeking employment at another software development job, making you feel trapped working at MEDITECH. Additionally, cost of living near the buildings is higher than the pay, basically forcing you to make long commutes to their buildings. Higher-ups are extremely out of touch with current working environment and constantly go back on their word. Over the past few years they have slashed benefits, have no matching 401k, PTO is low, and they have cut yearly holidays in favor of rolling them into accrued PTO. Additionally, they are against working from home and keep trying to bring people back into buildings during COVID, even when work full-time from home has proven effective. When asked for a reason why they will not let employees work from home, the Upper Management just shouts something about "WORK CULTURE" and "COMMUNITY" vs giving a valid reason. The CEO is also out of touch with the employees and what they want. Again, constantly back tracks on what was said since most company statements are either phrased poorly or come off as condescending and rude, all while pushing the narrative of "we care"/"we are a community". More worried about the image of the CEO/Upper management and the company vs the happiness and health of the employees. There is also no way to voice any concerns over these issues since there is no real HR department, just an Ombudsman.

Pros

MEDITECH is surviving, which wasn't a certainty ten years ago. Considering the low starting salaries for greater Boston, the company tends to be less selective in who they hire compared to other employers. Even with the effect that AI is having on tech hiring.

Cons

The market was MEDITECH's to lose, and they lost it. Without HCA as a customer MEDITECH would be finished. Considerations for job applicants such as inclusiveness and work/life balance are largely irrelevant, as the company's long-term prospects for success are doubtful. MaaS subscriptions don't bring in enough money to make up for the business that was lost to market leader Epic Systems. I am a MEDITECH shareholder, so I see the financial reports. Although I'm pleased that dividends continue to be paid, they are draining the company of badly needed cash to fund a turnaround.
