Pros

Strong salary, but at what expense?

Cons

Where to start...After working at breakneck pace for 3 years for this company, I was one of the highest producing doctors in the company and never got a formal review. I was paid well but never had any support from multiple MROs that rotated in and out of our groups of hospitals. I became horribly physically and mentally debilitated during my term of employment. I was the typical high functioning but depressed veterinarian. I made a critical error in judgement after hours of operation and the company found out. I told them that I had a problem after being approached and I was told that I should have reached out to the EAP program before being found out. Because I did not (for fear that I would be fired), I was fired on the spot. No remediation, no help. I wasn't even fired by my MRO but his assistant and told " not to do anything stupid ". This was after I self reported of my problem being told that I could keep my job after rehabilitation, but then after self reporting was fired anyway. I sacrificed every waking moment to this company and now after 2 years look back and realize that they lied to me all along. The "small town" feeling vet clinic culture was never their intention. It was mass acquisition of hospitals and no support on the local level. The individual does not matter. Do NOT come to them with a problem if you have one. They will dismiss you and sweep you under the rug. I sought help on my own never having anyone reach out to me after I admitted to my problem. NO ONE. It was all about the numbers. Never support unless you were a poor producing hospital. The pressure to perform at the highest level was constant and unrelenting. 1 in 6 veterinarians try to commit suicide with 1 in 3 being successful. I was lucky. I got the help I finally needed after a complete breakdown no thanks to NVA. I can only pray that another vet will reconsider if considering working at one of their hospitals. RUN. DO NOT WORK FOR NVA!!!!

Pros

Helps the hospital afford things such as advanced monitoring equipment

Cons

Took away all part time employees benefits such as pto, sick time, and holiday pay. They tried to “smooth it over” by doing a calculation based on how much you worked the past two years that decides how much of a “bonus” you get every 6 months to make up for taking away our pto, sick time and holiday pay. It’s been 7 months and we have yet to receive that. Also this is only for 2 years and then after that you’re SOL.
