Pros

1st, 2nd, 3rd shifts. You have the opportunity to work whenever, but only if it meets the priorities of your scheduling manager.

Cons

**TRIGGER WARNING: SUICIDE ATTEMPTS, DOMESTIC ABUSE, ANIMAL ABUSE** There are no opportunities for compensated leadership positions if you work as a Vet Tech, CSR, or KA. The security cameras barely work. The clients can be extremely hostile and dangerous (i.e. death threats, physical violence threats, litigious threats, spitting, etc.). There is no onsite security- just a doorbell camera, a panic button under the front desk, and a taser (provided by management). The managers will not be onsite if you work 2nd or 3rd shift. Even if you are able to contact a manager while working 2nd or 3rd shift, they may not be able to help you because they may not have an idea of how your job works. Extremely low employee retention rate. Inconsistent policy and procedures, especially regarding attendance, No Call No Shows, and tardies. At this job, you will experience the worst of humanity and how they treat the most defenseless creatures. You will witness a daily amount of animal abuse, spousal abuse, child abuse, etc. and there are absolutely no offered mental health days built into the hospital’s sick/PTO system. The work culture is filled with compassion fatigue- your coworkers will regularly “joke” about euthanizing themselves to avoid working another understaffed shift, for example. Due to the National DVM shortage, you will often times be asked to work a shift without any DVM present, which means that you will be expected to work a shift without intaking any patients- in these instances you will be asked to deny service to every patient/owner that comes to the door, no matter how severe their pets’ medical condition is.

Pros

Helps the hospital afford things such as advanced monitoring equipment

Cons

Took away all part time employees benefits such as pto, sick time, and holiday pay. They tried to “smooth it over” by doing a calculation based on how much you worked the past two years that decides how much of a “bonus” you get every 6 months to make up for taking away our pto, sick time and holiday pay. It’s been 7 months and we have yet to receive that. Also this is only for 2 years and then after that you’re SOL.
