Financial compensation is horrendous here. They suck you in with the 'culture' and 'free goodies' you are provided. You're best served to go join an adult company that will truly compensate you for your work.
There is no career advancement. Multiple departments do not have a manager to report up to.
When there is talk of career advancement, they will post job openings and then withdraw the job posting. They won't tell you why, they won't tell you until months later after you interviewed that the job opening is no longer available and won't be filled after all.
The company is shrinking quickly. Between layoffs and voluntary terminations, no one feels safe. Line level employees and middle management are pinned for the blame of the performance of the company. The CEO and Vice Presidents have been heard and seen several times in the open at the Minneapolis office pointing the blame at others instead of looking inward at themselves. If you all you do is give constructive critiques back instead of nodding along to the 'grand plan' you will find yourself under threat of being fired.
Despite the vision at the top from the CEO and Vice Presidents that continues to fail time and time again to achieve the business success The Nerdery desires they are never shown the door. If this were an adult company, new leadership would have been brought in and a new vision would have been in place a long time ago. There is talk of a senior vice president coming on board soon, it's only been in the works for the better part of a year at a time when the Nerdery struggles the most.
A majority, but not all, Senior Vice Presidents and the CEO can't speak to what The Nerdery is trying to achieve to continue growth (for the sake of growth) and financial stability. Buzz words and sound bites rule the Nerdery presentations detailing our future, but no one can actually speak to the 'digital transformation'' we need to achieve for our customers. It's more like The Nerdery needs its own Digital Transformation before it can hope to achieve any other clients own digital transformation. But you can't do that when your own executive committee can't describe what a digital transformation is.
CEO is very childlike and callous when delivering bad news to the company and even engages in callous behavior on employees Facebook posts about how things have been handled with information to layoffs or controversial company initiatives. The CEO can't handle feedback very well, at work and outside of work.
