Pros

Meet cool people and make friendships that last a long time. Gain basic skills that will launch you into other tech jobs. Polish communication skills.

Cons

Do you need a minimal salary right away where your job doesn’t feel secure and you’re constantly exhausted? Apply! They will train you if you don't have experience, but OE has lost its entire People team (save for two blue hair office managers that mostly arrange the delivery of bad food to the office where no one is actually at). There was a team once responsible for in-depth product and job training (which was excellent, thorough) but they've all since quit (or were fired at the advent of COVID) and sought jobs elsewhere. Because, and if you take anything away from this review: OutboundEngine excels as squandering talent. The executive team will talk of ample liquidity and opportunities for growth (new product additions, [honestly just fix the product you already have], career advancement) that will leave everyone scratching their heads because the reality is: 1.) There are not enough managers/team leaders to support their teams yet they won't hire more leaders. 2.)There are not enough workers to support the product. 3.) There are no opportunities for promotion (unless you count an arbitrary change in title). 4.) If you're hired in CS you'll start at 34k-36k (with a minimal bonus, 500/month, but continue reading) fielding inbound support questions about the how the product does not do what the sales promised. And if you're promoted you'll be given a book of business too large to actually manage. Each Account Manager has several hundred accounts. It varies from 300-500. There is not enough time in the month to touch every account in your book of business. Leaving your customers upset and wanting to cancel (can you blame them the sales team promised 24/7 support?!) which also are punished for in the form of a reduction in your bonus. CS will be navigating through the fog, half truths and downright misinformed promises the sales team desperately spins to gain a closed deal. You will always feel like you can never catch up on work. Every minute of everyday will be booked with phone calls and appointments. The admin work will seem like it's always increasing. There's no credit for doing said admin work by the way. In fact a lot the work: drafting emails, troubleshooting product, building ads, acting as a collections agent calling past due customers that have resigned to blocking OutboundEngine’s calls, designing custom copy and content that was promised by sales, communicating with partner company CS teams on customer’s behalf, navigating Facebook, reporting inconsistencies is not tracked nor rewarded. And any hour or minute they can’t see exactly what you are doing (again because they don't track the work you actually do) you’ll be asked to account for. You will be micro-managed like a toddler. Leadership exists only as a voice of reprimand. Outside of this you will never receive guidance, encouragement nor support. Leadership are taskmasters concerned only with the generation of numbers. The obfuscation on the part of the sales team, the lack of support from leadership, their inability to advocate for their team, the lack of enough workers to meaningfully and proactively establish relationships with all customers, all combine to leave customers upset, frustrated and wanting to cancel. Which they are told by the sales team that they can do at anytime but in reality cannot do without incurring huge fees. Another conversation CS members will frequently have. If you do decide to use the PTO, because you’re sick, or your internet is down, or because honestly you just need a breath, you're punished when you can't reach your metrics that month and you won't receive your bonus. So should you apply to work at this company? Maybe. Depends how desperate you are. But if 3 months in you feel like sisyphus forever pushing the boulder up the hill telling yourself it will get better it won't. And you can’t say I didn’t tell you so.

Pros

Before the new ceo it was fairly good. The workload was completely out of hand, but the people were really cool and there was a good bonus structure. Company culture was pretty cool, parties, big company events at venues like blazer laser tag and cidercade.

Cons

Once the new CEO stepped in it slowly went to absolute crap. Killed our bonuses, made layoffs of about 70% of the cs and retention team the week after yearly performance reviews for salary increase. Director of CS lied to our faces, and disguised a mass layoff as a hard earned work from home bonus day.
