Pros

- Completely remote - Uses Slack to communicate and everyone is friendly - Flexible hours - Offers growth within the company

Cons

- Can get overwhelming during the school year. You'll be tutoring 2-3 students at a time (sometimes more) with very little downtime. - Constantly typing and responding to students for the entire shift. - Not a lot of hours in the summer. Currently getting about 4-5 hrs a week. This is obviously unavoidable as most students are on summer break. - Some students can be young and frustrating to deal with. Some are rude, some are just looking for answers, others struggle with very basic concepts while extremely disengaged. Some students are a pure pleasure to tutor and I do try my best to help them! - The previous point wouldn't be so bad if they paid more than $15/hr. Seriously? We're supposed to be "experts" in our tutoring subjects attempting to help educate the young minds of tomorrow but they can't even bother to pay at least $20/hr considering the cost of living these days?

Pros

Real remote flexibility here. They are embracing the technology we have to ensure our work life balance remains a high priority. You're trusted to manage your own time and get the job done without constant oversight. The bigger story though is the turnaround over the last year and a half. The new leadership has turned the ship around... before it fell off the map. The mission is clear now, and there's real room to help shape how we get there rather than crossing our fingers, closing our eyes, and hoping for the least worst.

Cons

Leadership communication is where things fall a bit short. We get the monthly all-hands and then... radio silence. I get it, priorities compete and there's a lot on their plate. But when the crew is the one actually rowing the boat, it helps to hear from the captain more than once a month. The occasional engagement via Slack, a little more visibility in between the big meetings would go a long way toward keeping everyone rowing in the same direction. We're all in this together - it's helpful to be reminded why a bit more often.
