Pros
I met some of the most amazing people at this company. They've hired an incredible amount of talent. The equity mission attracts people who care deeply about education.
Cons
Working at Paper felt like being in a toxic relationship with someone who expected me to read their mind. Myself and the majority of my colleagues were constantly concerned about being fired or having reports fired at any moment without input or warning. There was no sense of psychological safety or value placed on trust-building. Upper management was constantly pulling the rug out from under us, not providing any expectations but then coming down on us if we did something they didn't like (even if what they want/don't want hadn't been previously communicated). Unfortunately, I saw a lot of people lose trust in managers for this reason, leading to a real lack in innovation because employees became scared to take risks. I was so disappointed by Paper. I started out feeling so excited and dedicated given the mission of equity and after around five months I had the realization that this company was not what I thought it was, and unfortunately the issues seem to run so deep I'm not confident things will ever get better.
