Pros

The people working at Paper are incredible. Everyone is passionate, talented, brilliant, and a team player. You will work alongside some of the most creative and hardworking people you've ever met. Everyone is supportive, kind, and doing all they can to make Paper amazing.

Cons

Leadership is a mess. Teams and departments are brought on and let go before they ever have time to make an impact. There is a lack of understanding of the world of education or even edtech and when employees try and give feedback or share their own (or their customers) experience it is ignored or seen as too negative. The leadership team lacks diversity and refused to answer questions regarding ensuring diverse voices and perspectives were heard and uplifted during company-wide AMAs. One month your team can be the next big thing at Paper and then the next you are gone without much explanation. There is no coaching or feedback provided on how to improve or an explanation of what is needed or expected before these changes are made. Because they do not listen to the constructive feedback and concerns of employees, the culture has become toxic. You never know if you or your team is safe because the goalposts are constantly moving and feedback on how to improve or do better is never provided. There is a lack of big-picture understanding or long-term planning and employees are set up to fail as a result of last-minute pushes to achieve unrealistic goals.

Pros

Real remote flexibility here. They are embracing the technology we have to ensure our work life balance remains a high priority. You're trusted to manage your own time and get the job done without constant oversight. The bigger story though is the turnaround over the last year and a half. The new leadership has turned the ship around... before it fell off the map. The mission is clear now, and there's real room to help shape how we get there rather than crossing our fingers, closing our eyes, and hoping for the least worst.

Cons

Leadership communication is where things fall a bit short. We get the monthly all-hands and then... radio silence. I get it, priorities compete and there's a lot on their plate. But when the crew is the one actually rowing the boat, it helps to hear from the captain more than once a month. The occasional engagement via Slack, a little more visibility in between the big meetings would go a long way toward keeping everyone rowing in the same direction. We're all in this together - it's helpful to be reminded why a bit more often.
