Pros
Once was a great resource for customers/advertisers in the aesthetic space and a great place to grow your career. (This is no longer the case)
Cons
RealSelf has been struggling for a while, but the past few months have seen a stark decline, moving the company further from its foundational values of trust and integrity. The appointment of our new CEO in July brought initial excitement, but several months in, there has been no real value added under her leadership. She has quickly eroded what was left of company culture and employee morale and fostered a culture of insecurity and fear. DEI is almost non-existent as a lot of the company now comprises the CEO's like-minded friend group. The strategic direction of the company has been ambiguous and secretive since July, with a noticeable absence of direction, goals, or strategic insight. Minou often name-drops and focuses on her own self-promotion yet fails to provide actionable insights or direct answers. When questions are asked, she typically dismisses them or responds with vague idioms. This hurts operational effectiveness and stifles teams' ability to perform. Despite her accessibility, Minou's interactions often feel performative, and don’t translate into genuine support or leadership . While Minou is undeniably charming and friendly, her leadership has fostered a notably toxic environment. She frequently resorts to buzzwords but fails to articulate clear objectives or live up to the principles she advocates. There has been a distinct shift towards self-promotion and cultivating her own personal brand at the cost of internal and external stakeholders’ well-being. Layoffs have been a major strategy this year. Although layoffs can be a necessary part of business restructuring, the manner in which they have been executed since the leadership change has lacked both professionalism and empathy. The changes to severance packages and the handling of layoffs, particularly replacing many positions with individuals from the CEO’s personal circle, makes it feel like these decisions are more about personal preference than company strategy. Moreover, Minou's handling of the layoffs during the holiday season was particularly thoughtless. She lacked either the courage and/or skills to personally deliver the news, and didn’t bother to show her face at the 90 second meeting where a large number of employees learned they’d be losing their job for the holidays.
