Sink or Swim…Mostly Sink - Neighborhood Coordinator Stanley Martin Homes Employee Review

Pros

Okay in-office setting where most of the coworkers were friendly. Company always splurged on food.

Cons

If you enjoy being talked at instead of listened to, you’ll fit right in. The VP of Sales has mastered the art of belittling employees while confidently ignoring any actual feedback. Leadership here feels more like a one way monologue than a conversation. Compensation is another adventure. Between rising insurance costs quietly eating into your paycheck and the near mythical concept of raises (at least in some departments), don’t expect financial growth to match your workload. Promises are made often and kept rarely. Add in little to no training, and you’re essentially thrown in and expected to “figure it out” with minimal support. Overall, it’s a great place to build resilience… just not a career.

Pros

Home Builder has strong mission, vision, and values. Privately held. Celebrating 60th anniversary in 2026. Great people!! Hard-working, respectful, and accountable. HQ in Reston, VA. They build in DMV, Richmond, Charlottesville, All over NC, SC, Atlanta, Orlando and Tampa, so there are lots of work sites and growth opportunities: In-field positions (sales, construction management) are growing and many promotions come from within. Intern opportunities are excellent! Paid. Substantive work. Has resulted in full time employment. Company believes in hiring early in career to train team members in the "Stanley Martin way." Supports workers with robust learning and development - for individuals and teams. Great people!! Strong benefits package, including 401K matching funds (up to specific $ amount) and pet insurance.

Cons

Salaries can be well below average and increases are a small % of original base. Negotiate. Negotiate. Negotiate.
