Toxic Corporate Culture

Pros

Like many other local companies, work roles are less specialized than large companies. Stafaf can interact with each other more often.

Cons

1. Lack of empathy. Most staff will need a few hours off here or there to go to a dentist or doctor’s appointment without wanting to chip into a full day off. But Stanley Martin lacks the empathy to offer their staff the flexibility when it is truly needed. 2. Office gossip. It's toxic to the atmosphere and even constitute bullying and therefore termination. Office gossip here is hurtful, spiteful and leaves staff becoming closed off and guarded. 3. Micromanagement. When under constant scrutiny from management, it creates an atmosphere full of tension. Regardless that micromanagement doesn’t work, all its good for is slowing down work and ensuring all staffs are under unnecessary pressure.

Pros

The parking is free and there is a wholefood near the company. The office is also very nice and bright with good coffee makers.

Cons

Two things made me leave and not regret leaving Stanley Martin Homes. Issue 1: I was assigned a log in account with an associated password to my work computer that I was not able to change. My manager also had both my log in info including the password. I once found he logged in my account without noticing me and he refused to apologize for it. Issue 2: After leaving Stanley Martin, I found another opportunity soon and started working somewhere else. But I still got emails and phone calls from the headhunters quite often, and they wanted to discuss with me the job opportunities that I never applied for. After several conversations, one of them sent me the application they got with the updated resume that I saved in my work computer at Stanley Martin. I am not sure whether there is correlation between Issue 1 and Issue 2. But I am more than happy that I have left Stanley Martin.

It's a job, it pays the bills and realize how good your previous boss was

Cons

It appears that ethical behavior is foreign concept. The culture is somewhere between toxic and abrasive.
