Pros

Rapidly growing with support of strong marketing, funding, and legal machinery (including Facebook) Opportunities to advance if you play the political game

Cons

Burnout factory: most teachers/staff are younger, less experienced, and don't have children. A lot of turnover within two years (one site saw 70% turnover last year) No counselors for students Concerns about validity/appropriateness of pedagogy (eg "learning" from multiple choice tests) "Volunteerism" culture = a lot of early/late hours before you even get home to do grading, planning, etc. You cannot completely trust management. Multiple promises were broken, to myself or others, around contracts, ideas being "borrowed," etc.

Some kids don't listen, and sometimes you have to deal with entitled, reckless drivers.

Good coworkers and positive relationship with students. Frequent PD weeks during expeditions Constantly given snacks in the staff room

Cons

Toxic work Environment, if you weren't personally liked by admin, or rocked the boat in anyway they would talk bad about you. It was almost as if we were still in high school...as high school teachers. There was a lack of transparency from Admin. There was a lack of proper training, I was asked to do unethical things while on the job, ex) asked to graduate my students anyway when they had not earned the grades to pass or had met the attendance expectations. Faced gender discrimination from a Coworker, creating a hostel work environment for me.
