I was a store manager for Torrid, and was with the company for four years total. - Store Manager Torrid Employee Review

Pros

I moved up fast, so I gained resume experience. Don't expect to actually be developed for the roles you'd like though. I got to go to California for a week to HQ, so that was a pro.

Cons

You're expected to work like you're on commission and sell credit, but you make no money; therefore, turnover is so high, and you constantly have to hire and train new employees only to do it again when they leave of dissatisfaction with the company. It's exhausting. I could never take vacation time because there was no work/life balance. Some stores only have a store manager and two part time assistant managers, meaning you are pretty much screwed if someone calls off sick, and the only person who works full time in the entire store. They give you no payroll, so you spend a LOT of time alone, responsible for clients AND tasks to be completed. I would be alone sometimes from 9am until 3 or 4, meaning no lunch break. Associates are only allowed an average of 3 hours for a shift... I had so many great candidates not accept a position because of that.

Pros

Great employee discount, loyal customers.

Cons

Too focused on profit margin to care about employees and customers. Clothing has gone out of style and is constantly trying to keep up with competitors like Maurices and Aerie. Several stores have closed in my area due to low sales.
