Pros
I've taught over 2000+ classes. This is what I have found enjoyable: 1. I am able to help children grow, not only in a second language, but in other subjects as well. 2. The lessons are pre-made (a big plus if you've been a teacher for regular school and have to come up with the lessons yourself) so I can focus more on having fun in my classroom. 3. I'm allowed to have my own teaching style and adapt to my students individual needs. You can bond better this way. 4. The VIPKID team answers my questions within a day and always give a reference link when they answer. This way, I can go an research for myself on company guidelines if I wish. 5. I get to set my own schedule. If I want to work 2-40hrs+ a week, I can open that many time slots. If I want the weekends off, I can choose to do so. 6. They have FREE workshops you can attend to gain more teaching techniques! But they aren't mandatory. (Which I love! I can learn when I have a spare moment.) Those who do the workshops have loads of experience and honestly want to help you succeed. It feels good to know I'm cared about and what I'm concerned about have been addressed.
Cons
1. Monthly class acceptance/rejection. There's times when your students can submit a request of 4 days and times in a row. You either accept all of them or none of them at once. If I could choose 1 of 4 - 3 of 4 classes that I know would fit my schedule better, I would LOVE it! That way I don't miss any teaching opportunities and my student still knows I care about them. 2. I do recognize that it is in the contract, if you accept a class, you're supposed to teach it. But, I would like to see this part changed. Why? Here's my reason: If a teacher cancels a class they've accepted, and do so 1-2 weeks in advance, it would give ample time for the student/parent/learning partner to find another teacher for that class. This way the teacher is showing responsibility and they don't need to be penalized for it. If these things could be fixed, I would be very happy.
