Pros

kids are cute unlimited sick days (but you’re lowkey shamed for taking them)

Cons

honestly, there’s a lot. And I’ve brought these up with admin to address them, but have been kind of gaslit and offered really underwhelming explanations as to why my complaints are invalid. network is not responsive to teacher and student needs in order to address student gaps, teachers barely get preps and overextend themselves (schools are severely understaffed so teachers had to cover lunch and recess…), you are under fire if your “data” is below grade level or 100% of your students don’t have eyes on you, lots of toxic positivity, passive aggressiveness and conditional support, inexperienced teachers are expected to address behavioral concerns which should be addressed by behavioral specialists/deans, our “mindfulness retreats” are held in the school’s cafeteria and are a load of bull lol (maybe you could have used that retreat money to fund employee stipends for mental/physical health or let them take the rest of the day off… oh wait you got rid of the class pass benefit..), you only get TWO PTO days (and yes I get that there are breaks but only two???), your life WILL revolve around this job, you WILL get burnt out. honestly there’s so much…

Zeta Charter Schools Response

Thank you for taking the time to write this review of your experience at Zeta. We are glad that you enjoyed working with your students and that you benefited from our unlimited sick day policy. We are sorry to hear that you felt shamed; we prioritize the well-being of our staff and expect that managers honor the needs of each individual staff member. At Zeta, our Network team has systems in place so that we can understand and support the unique needs of each school community. We are continuing to use current and prior learnings from feedback surveys and conversations with teammates to continuously improve. We are deeply committed to learning and evolving. We know that we ask a lot of our team members at Zeta. This is because we are all deeply committed to our mission and the work of schooling is so important. To ensure every child and every team member is set up for success, we engage in extensive training, coaching, and feedback, and we use a data-driven approach. This immense effort is in service of equitable education delivered with love and commitment. We are proud to have two teachers in every classroom in order to maintain an average 15:1 student to teacher ratio across our schools. We believe that mindfulness is just as important for our teammates as it is for our students, and recognize the importance of reflection and recentering ourselves around our greater purpose throughout the year. We have been intentional about creating space for purposeful reflection for our staff. We welcome specific feedback about how these mindfulness retreats could be more impactful for our teammates. This year we were also excited to add free Talkspace therapy as a benefit for all our staff. While we were also disappointed to part ways with our ClassPass benefit, we are happy to now offer the FitOn benefit, which offers similar benefits including but not limited to credits toward fitness classes, unlimited access to digital health courses, condition management, health guides, and meal plans and recipes. School staff have generous breaks throughout the school year in alignment with the school calendar. We offer an additional 2 days for outside of school closure days and sick days because we understand there are inevitable personal matters that come up. We greatly appreciate your raising these concerns and value the hard work and contributions you have made during your time at Zeta. We are sorry that it didn’t work out, and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Pros

Working here is incredibly rewarding because you see the direct impact your work has on students and families. The mission is at the center of everything, and you’re surrounded by talented, passionate people who genuinely care. If you’re someone with grit, a strong work ethic, and a desire to make a difference, there are countless opportunities to grow and make an impact.

Cons

The pace can be intense, and priorities may shift as the organization continues to grow. This environment isn’t for everyone, but for people who thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven setting, it can be incredibly fulfilling.

Pros

What I appreciate most about Zeta is the way the organization invests in its people. There is a clear commitment to supporting employees as whole individuals, not just as professionals filling a role. Growth, wellness, and connection are built into the culture in intentional ways, and that support is felt in the day-to-day experience. The benefits are another standout. Zeta’s benefits package is generous and thoughtfully designed, and the organization subsidizes a significant portion of the cost. Having access to $0/month healthcare options is uncommon and reflects how seriously Zeta takes caring for its team. The people and mission also make this a very energizing place to work. You are surrounded by colleagues who are deeply committed to meaningful change and aligned around a shared purpose. Being part of that kind of mission-driven, positive environment is powerful both personally and professionally. I feel encouraged to bring my full self to the work, which helps me contribute at my best.

Cons

Zeta has a very high bar for excellence, and that is made clear from the beginning. This may not be the right environment for someone who is not prepared to stretch, grow, and consistently work toward ambitious goals. That said, the organization does not simply expect excellence without support. There are strong systems for coaching, development, and feedback to help team members meet that bar in service of the mission.
