Not perfect, just real. And trying really hard.
Pros
I’ve worked in multiple high-performing organizations, both in nonprofits and in the private sector. What I learned is that building something ambitious is never clean or easy. Especially not in education, and especially not at scale. What makes Zeta different for me (and why I believe in the work) is that this is a place where people are really trying to do it the right way. Yes, expectations are high and the work is demanding. Things change fast. But people care about getting it right—both for students and for each other. Zeta doesn’t run on fear, or pretense, or hierarchy for hierarchy’s sake. I’ve seen leadership own mistakes, rethink decisions, and bring staff into hard conversations. I’ve never worked anywhere that tries so deliberately to build a healthy culture while moving at this speed. That doesn’t mean everyone experiences Zeta the same way. Some come in expecting only stability and structure, and instead find an organization in-motion that’s still evolving. I get it, especially for someone earlier in their career. But in my view, this is just the reality of trying to build something excellent and equitable at the same time. If you’re looking for easy, or perfect, this probably isn’t it. But if you want to work with people who are smart, committed, and seriously invested in doing right by children, Zeta is worth a look.
Cons
The pace of change can sometimes outrun internal systems and processes. You’ll occasionally find yourself figuring things out as you go, which isn’t ideal for everyone. While leadership is committed to building healthy culture, the rapid growth means some operational aspects are still catching up to the vision. Also, because expectations are genuinely high and the work matters so much, it can be easy to overcommit or feel like you’re never quite doing enough. The organization’s commitment to excellence is real, but that also means the pressure to deliver is constant.
