The World Needs The Coder School - Code Coach theCoderSchool Employee Review

Pros

As a former schoolteacher, I applaud The Coder School for not waiting for schools to catch up with the times and teach young people to code. As a Code Coach you have pretty much total freedom in what projects you work on with students. But students/parents have total freedom to switch to another coach, so you'd better do something fun, interesting and useful. Sometimes I'd do games, sometimes solving puzzles, and sometimes cloning an artsy sketch I found on Twitter.

Cons

Don't expect it to be a career, it's a part-time job (but one I find extremely satisfying). There's no deal-breaking problems: just sometimes a kid is unpleasantly surprised at how much work it is to code something he or she thought would be easy. Most coders find that inspiring but some kids are used to swiping their iPads and won't push themselves.

Pros

Incredibly supportive management, casual working environment, supportive coworkers, and a dynamically shifting list of tasks that always keeps the job interesting.

Cons

The after-school nature of the coaching sessions means that, for part-timers, hours can be limited during slower seasons, and may be soft-capped to 5 hours a day maximum, depending on the season.
