Pros

Great benefits, good people, awards and quarterly bonus potential. Lots of training and classes offered. Great mid level regional managers.

Cons

Properties understaffed in office and maintenance. Hard to get time off for vacation in the summer months. Overtime not always allowed, even though the properties are understaffed.

Pros

Good health/insurance benefits, rent discount

Cons

Don't expect to climb up the ladder: even if you express aspirations of growing within the company, they'll never promote you from your position. The only staff that really gets respect/bonuses/prizes/lunches are the leasing agents, all others are replacable cannon fodder: as such, employee turnover is high. Lots of overtime work when management leaves early and leaves work undone, forcing you to pick up their slack.

With all due respect, we have to disagree with your assessment of the promotional opportunities at Equity. To date, our records reflect that for manager level positions at our properties we promote from within more than 65% of the time depending on the role. As a practice, every position at Equity is open for 5 business days to allow our employees the option to apply before we make any selections from outside of the company. Anyone who is recommended by their manager is given the opportunity to interview for that role. Our people are our greatest asset and "replaceable" is not how we think of the individuals that work with us.

Pros

I worked for Equity Residential and I must say, the company has great benefits, has an excellent balance of overall professional and personal life.

Cons

For me, the con was the property management staff at multiple properties as well as the District managers that oversees their properties. I was disrespected, embarrassed, and morally hurt by their way of conduct. They(property and district managers) do not care about your well being, your ideas, or even your feelings. I had a situation with this company and I've reached out to ALL of my superiors and nothing was done. I was completely ignored and got the run around every time I brought up an issue involving a particular manager, because she/he was an employee of the company for years. At the end of the day, I would just say stay away from this company if you want a place that really cares about you because the Managment staff they hire doesn't

The work experience you describe is not one that we would want any employee to experience. We question if it was Equity Residential because we don't use the title of “District Manager”. ‘Regional Manager” is the equivalent role in our company. In the case that you are correctly referring to Equity, I hope you will reach out to Human Resources at 312-928-1184 to discuss your experience further so we can get a fuller understanding of your concerns and any issues you encountered.
