Pros

Getting to talk to people and help them find their next home. Interacting with residents and getting to know the people who live in the community.

Cons

This company is essentially the "Stepford Wives" of business. You will not find a faker group of people in any industry. Ever. To call management incompetent would be a massive understatement, and if that's not bad enough, they refuse to be accountable for their nonsensical behavior and blatant lies and errors. Every property manager that I met spent more time gossiping about their residents than doing anything else, which is quite frankly just bad business and morally bankrupt. The work itself is terribly dull and often includes a great deal of busy work. The property managers bark orders with a smile and have you complete utterly pointless tasks just for the sake of them being in charge. I could go on and on. I can't say that these things are true of every location, but I will say this, never trust a company that throws a christmas party and won't even spring for drinks. ($15 for a budweiser at a holiday party? Seriously? That's a good indication of how much they care about their people). What I can say about the company as a whole is that the benefits are terrible. I had to drive 15 miles to get medication because their insurance only works with two pharmacies. You get one week of vacation after 6 months, and you don't get any real vacation until 5 or 6 years. The 401K matching is an utter joke. The incentives are terrible (you will also compete with your manager for commissions, because that makes sense). Very poor benefits. If you desperately need a paycheck, work for Equity as a last resort. If you can avoid it, for your own sanity, please do.

Pros

Compensation, benefits, technology, great people, and the willingness to spend capital dollars on maintaining our communities. Also, the focus on renewals is appreciated as we are able to make the right decisions on-site based on the factual numbers. This involves an approval process, but as long as you understand the reasoning and have a good business case, it will always be approved.

Cons

Much like any other large company, there is a lengthy approval process for any customer service gesture. This is expected, but it would be nice if we in management had a higher cap on our approval limits.

We really appreciate your candid feedback and have shared your recommendations with senior leadership. Equity Residential wouldn't be the great company that it is without dedicated employees like you who work so hard to provide a great customer experience for our residents. Thank you for everything you do, for questioning authority and for sharing the knowledge.

Pros

You get paid and their are benefits. They only contribute 5% to your 401k after a year and you aren't fully vested until you have worked for the company for 5 years when most places it's 10% and your fully vested after 3 years.

Cons

Well to start off with the location I work at is dangerous has no security. Absolutely filthy and disgusting. If I try to speak up I am basically told nothing will change and that's just the way it is. They are constantly breaking labor laws. This company is a bunch of high school bullies that want to claw their way to the top and leave you out in the dust. I am not able to be specific on incidents for security purposes but if you like wondering if you will have a job, kissing up to unintelligent people, letting people use you and can't even breathe because of how under staffed you are then this is the company for you.

The experiences you describe are not ones that should be occurring at any Equity community. We encourage you to contact Human Resources at 206-508-0460 to have a confidential conversation about your concerns. Thank you.
