Pros

Great benefits, great people, good growth opportunities. They pay for professional development including certifications and college educations, so the sky is the limit on how educated you could be.

Cons

Traditional company, sometimes hard to innovate. It's especially difficult to get middle management to improve processes, but that's probably true of many places.

Pros

Erie is a great place to work if you are not an employee in the Claims Department. Erie offers great benefits. Erie has never had to lay off employees in its 90+years of being in business. It is a financially stable insurance carrier.

Cons

I've been employed at Erie for 20 years. I've been a supervisor for 6 years. I believe in Erie's commitment to service and have always taken pride in the service provided by the claims employees. As a supervisor I know first hand the claims employees are committed to providing exceptional claims service to our customers. Unfortunately THEY (Executive Management) don't listen to the Claims Managers or the Claims Leadership Staff. Over the last 7 - 10 years "bean counters" are making decisions regarding staffing. These are people who haven't handled a claim in over 20 years. They have no idea what it is like to be on the front line of claims. The reason they don't know is because they never have conversations with their Claims Managers or Leadership Staff. Handling a claim today is very different than it was even 5 years ago due to society's expectations and technology. THEY look at the "numbers" and believe the "numbers" tell the entire story. My Supervisory Staff and I have never been so frustrated. I have claims adjusters who never complain, complaining about the volume of work they are expected to handle. They want to do a good job. They want to provide the service for which Erie is known; but THEY keep making it more and more difficult.,
