Pros

Friendly work environment. Great compensation and benefits. Very tough to get in the door, but once you're in, you can stay as long as you desire.

Cons

Erie is a dying small city. GE is leaving and the resulting impact is going to be felt for years to come. 80% of the headquarters staff is from was born in Erie, raised in Erie, and only knows Erie.

Good company to work for if you can get a full time position

Pros

Company takes care of their employees, good benefits, holiday bonus, pay is good at the home office compared to other jobs in the Erie area.

Cons

Because Erie Insurance is a large employer in the city they know that they can be an employer of choice and they string along contract workers for years without hiring them. I've seen contractors work here for 7 years or more without getting hired and then leave for somewhere else, and surprise surprise that contractor had a bunch of knowledge and information that is now lost and everyone scrambles to figure out what the hell to do when they leave. There are departments that are more than half contractors and when the contractors figure out they're not getting hired they leave in less than a year, then the new contractors find this out and leave too in an infinite loop of turnover. I would not recommend anyone ever take a contract position at this company. Let them suffer trying to find people to fill positions if they're going to try to use people like this. Temp work should be for jobs that are only needed for a short time or for projects that have a defined period of time, not for jobs that aren't going away and are critical to the business. It's stupid.
