Pros

It is a job. In the right department, you can work until retirement.

Cons

Some bad experiences in IT. Be cautious with this company if you value your career. The IT department treats its employees like garbage, especially contractors. They manage by crisis and always have the staff in fire fighting mode. The last ESH project really burned the staff out. The section supervisor sets ridiculous deadlines, has the staff work ridiculous hours and takes credit for pulling the project out of the abyss. Then he has the audacity to target people with bad performance reviews and terminations. One very experienced and talented contractor was released this spring so the department could hire several full time employees. The shocking thing was how they went about it. They destroyed the guys reputation to justify breaching his contract. He has been marked as norehire for absolutely no reason except to justify this unethical if not illegal breach. This was so egregious that even his contract company won't speak to him anymore. It takes truly a lack of a soul to do this. Be very very cautious with this company. You have been warned!

Pros

Stable company with a long history of success

Cons

Having a family member in senior management is the easiest way to get ahead, and will put you above others who are more experienced and better qualified. If you don't fit the mold of the elitist personality they look for, then raises and promotions will not happen. No room for creativity or personal development. Also, Erie is a horrible place to live. The weather is miserable, many restaurants are terrible, shopping is limited, and people are generally unfriendly.
