ECS does not value its employees

Pros

Decent starting salary. They offered education reimbursement and paid for membership at professional societies.

Cons

They do not value their employees. The annual raise rate was 1.5% during one of the highest inflation years. They lost the contract an employee was on while the employee was out on medical leave, this resulting in the employee’s termination. There is no room for negotiation or discussion during the annual performance review process.

Pros

-Great staff. My management team is extremely supportive and encouraging. Very clear with expectations, constant positive feedback, always open to help with things and never make you feel bad for asking. -More progressive business practices than other contracting companies I've been with (still a bit behind private sector I think). They are just now incorporating a DEI department. Their trainings are all very inclusive and socially aware.

Cons

- I've been here for just over a year and so far no word on if ECS does annual pay increases to keep up with increased cost of living. - Merit increases capped at 2% and CFO is very stingy with the funds. - Performance review practices are so strange. Management is almost punished if their team gets all great scores. So merit increases are based on your review scores but managers are punished if they give great review scores. I had 2 performance reviews so far and in both my supervisor told me explicitly to almost ignore the score they gave (3-3.5 out of 5 for most) because they get scolded if they give all 4s and even moreso if they give 5s, but my performance aligned with scores of 4s and 5s. - Leave is on the low side. At my level (just over 1 year at ECS) I get 5 hours per pay period, for a total of about 15 total days per year, including sick. Some holidays are observed but not all. I would like to see a minimum of 20 days.

You better be a good test taker

Pros

100% telework - Work/Life Balance Many process documents to refer to from similar projects to get you going. You are placed on multiple projects at a time and will keep busy.

Cons

Hectic onboarding process - They overload you with required reading, tasks, classes, etc. Not mentioned in the interview, but they expect you to get certifications immediately and regularly. There is a lot of pressure on this, so be ready. Leave accrual is relatively slow. It is all in one bucket - sick, PTO, etc. You do not get specified sick leave. They do honor some holidays. You are not really trained on anything. You are truly a consultant in a sink or swim environment.
