Pros

Working in Admissions has been a wonderful experience! The environment is incredibly positive, and everyone is friendly and helpful. There is a strong sense of teamwork. No matter what comes up there is someone always willing to help, and what makes it even more meaningful is that students always come first. You get to help students make a positive impact in their lives and achieve goals that they have set for themselves. There is also a lot of room for growth within the University. Multiple counselors and staff from other departments have been promoted to senior level positions within their first year. I enjoy coming to work every day and being part of such a supportive and encouraging team.

Cons

There are none that I can think of.

Pros

For the most part, I like most my coworkers and majority of the leadership team. Majority of the time they are pretty understanding if I call out. You are granted 10 days of paid vacation after you hit the 3 month mark. They also order lunch for us every other week. If you truly want to improve, leadership will help you. You won’t be micromanaged IF you prove your worth. Don’t get it twisted, this is a SALES job, not an administrative job. And the majority of the people that give negative reviews for the Admissions Counselor position do so because they sucked at sales and got fired or quit because they sucked at sales.

Cons

Extremely high turnover rate. I’ve been here less than a year and 80% of the department quit within the small time I’ve been here. The director likes to “micro-bully” meaning if she thinks you are not productive she will micromanage you to the point of you quitting. Even IF you are a top performing employee, there is virtually no room for growth or raises unless you are one of the director’s goody-goodys. Saw ACs with the highest metrics get denied raises even when they were the top performers in the department. Constant changes that are complete wastes of time and hindrances to productivity. The new enrollment site is so bad that it won’t allow you to process applications, payments, and submit documents correctly causing you to do double the work because it was never beta tested and launched with zero quality control. Too many pointless meetings.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your thorough review. You are correct that our Admissions Counselors are vital to our support of new students and growth of the university. There is an annual review process to recognize and support our team members to advancement opportunities. The expectations of the role are explained in great detail during the hiring process and new hire Admissions training. In your review you mention being a current team member, please feel free to contact VP of Enrollment Management, Ryan Heintz, to discuss your feedback.

Pros

Easy office job Some coworkers are great Hours are consistent

Cons

- No time off during "peak" period which lasts entire summer - Unprofessional management - Inappropriate behavior from upper leadership with no accountability & many "threatening" behaviors to employees, including telling many that chose to leave they would "never find a job" in higher education again. - Extreme, extreme micromanagement I have had my review reported twice by the leadership here so they can make it appear as if it is better than it is. I left respectfully and on my own terms but share this as a warning! This job will make you hate your life. Find another spot.

Thank you for your feedback. The job responsibilities and expectations are clearly reviewed during the hiring and training process to prepare new Admissions team members for success in their role. One-on-one and team meetings are conducted consistently to allow for open and honest communication and dialogue. The majority of team members are very successful and support students extremely well to their educational and career goals! Please contact VP of Enrollment Management, Ryan Heintz, if you'd like to discuss more.
