Pros

The quality of the people I worked with was phenomenal, and made a very stressful job tolerable. There was an effort made to have a good culture, and I appreciated the yearly bonus (if our profits were on target,) as well as the Holiday Breakfast every December. The benefits package was decent, if a little pricey.

Cons

After nearly a decade- the last four years of which I was told to "hold on, we don't want to lose you, we're looking for the right opportunity to advance you into" I decided to leave. There are very few pathways to move forward in the company. The pay was lower than industry standards, especially for those employees who had been there for a long period. New employees were actually being hired at higher rates than old employees were currently making, which made for a lot of tension. This also sent the message that knowledge and experience at the company were not valued. Also, unlike other banks that pay out for most new referred business an employee solicits, Exchange Bank offered additional pay on only a few select products. The rest of the required referrals were considered part of your job, and you could get written up and even terminated if you consistently did not meet your quota.

Pros

Great coworkers in-branch who truly care about providing exceptional customer service. Amazing community reputation and relationship. Customers truly feel like they are part of our family. oh, and supporting the Doyle Scholarship! The new CEO seems to understand the banks shortcomings and seems to sincerely want to change the culture in leadership and the back office.

Cons

No central source of information. Often long-term employees in back office and management act as gatekeepers of certain information & task. This makes it difficult for branch staff to obtain the right answers for customers the first time and to set service expectations. The outdated technology/tools at our disposal make even simple task labor-intensive and prone to errors. The branches are full of hard workers, but they can be demotivated by changes implemented by the back-office with no regard to how it affects staff and customers. It also takes forever to fill empty positions.
