Pros

Low-cost health insurance, good experience to go elsewhere in the industry, nice employee events, frequent free lunch

Cons

Where do I begin? First, if you are a good employee, you will have an unmanageable workload, while underachieving employees are allowed to underachieve. Micromanagement seems to be encouraged. Good work goes unrecognized, while one mistake will earn you a trip to the principal’s office. Company culture is outdated - personally, I don’t care to wear a dress shirt and tie every day, but there’s really no reason for this, when 9/10 days, I sit in front of a computer screen and don’t see customers. If management knows customers will be in, let employees know a day in advance and we can dress up. Otherwise, what’s the point? My direct supervisor does not handle stress well and takes her frustration out on entry-level employees. I have had multiple conversations with management regarding her behavior and was promised follow-up and promised that things would improve. Neither occurred. After I reported her behavior, her enmity toward me, in particular, increased - I was frequently ridiculed in front of others and my previous meeting with our manager was brought up by her at least twice. I was constantly in an environment of harassment and intimidation, it was like a prison. On day one of employment with Expeditors, the training videos extol the virtues of the company and new employees are told the sky is the limit and you can go anywhere with this company. They make it seem as if your life has been completely transformed and you’re on your way to the top. In truth, the managers who are in place now are going to be there for the foreseeable future, and career advancement is very limited, unless you are willing to uproot your family and move across the country or halfway around the world. Training is terrible. The computer-based training offers little in hands-on assistance, and since employees have little to no spare time, the vast majority barely skim the material and go directly to the exam, which you can take an unlimited number of times. In-house software is obsolete and frankly, embarrassing in 2019. 75 percent of desk agents’ work could be done on a laptop from home; but the company is inflexible on working from home or altering schedules.
