Pros

Very stable and predictable pace with little or no extreme changes in direction. Excellent place for moms, dads, and people either early in their career or late in their career. The management team has hit on a formula that consistently returns double digit returns year over year(except recently) and has no reason to change. Great lessons to be learned about the fundamentals of business and what it means to manage a supply-chain. If you are in already in management you probably will not leave because of your options, your bonus, and your compensation get better the longer you stay.

Cons

Do not expect your career to grow or move quickly unless you are an insider, come in at a high level, or are a clear high performer. Also, beware that there is no HR department and this causes a lot of angst if you end up moving between groups. There is virtually no compensation analysis, standard reward process, or easily accessible work history (and to credit the management team there is no support in these areas). This makes for some very non-standard compensation practices between groups. Also the company believes that Logistics is best learned on the job so do not expect a lot of seminars, webinars, conferences, or certificate courses. Instead, you will be encouraged to learn more about the business.

Pros

Expeditors is a very stable firm whose business model is designed to weather economic downturns quite easily. The office environment is modern and clean. The office is centrally located and easy to travel to by public transportation. The workload is reasonable and overtime is kept to a minimum. Fully paid health benefits for employees and their families is provided as well as a profitable Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Expeditors has a history of promoting from within and people with long careers here are commonplace. Expeditors is an easy place to shine-- credit and recognition are regularly given to those deserving.

Cons

Expeditors policies for PTO are antiquated. Maximum of 5 days of PTO the first year, 2 weeks for years 3-5. 3 weeks of paid time off aren't awarded until an employee's 6th year. No flexible schedules, absolutely no telecommuting, eating lunch at your desk is prohibited, salaries are about 15-20% below market. There is a dress code, and that dress code includes a mandatory tie. There is no HR department at Expeditors. If you have a question about your benefits or a policy, you must go through your immediate manager whose knowledge of the matter may only amount to word of mouth. As a takeaway: turnover is high. If you track a group of 100 employees hired by Expeditors on a given date, in three years only 25 would still employed.

Cons

Very big company and you must work hard to make it. But if you make it, sky is the limit.
