Pros

There are no pros in this store

Cons

Everything is a con. Management makes you do everything while they watch and complain.

Pros

There were no pros at that job.

Cons

I understand retail can be a tough experience but this was truly absurd. They required you to wear only their brand clothing while working on the floor so you have to spend a ton of money on their items to work there (even with the employee discount that is worse than a big sale). Managers constantly just pointed to customers in the store and told you to greet them AGAIN and AGAIN which annoyed people. Was also told to refold stacks of already folded clothing over and over to 'look busy.' Then they would appoint 1 associate to close the entire store (was a large location with about 8 sections which took until midnight after closing as part of the afternoon shift. Employee turnover was nonstop. People would just say nothing and never come back because it was awful. On call 24/7 standing by to drive over with a couple hours notice so you can't have a life. But never getting anywhere near livable hours per week and just would work 1-2 absurd days that went all night. Also suspicious activity from veteran employees and management who would walk around the theft detector panels. This obviously had to do with one particular location at a point in time, but this is the experience i had.

Pros

easy to create/change schedule availability, great employee discount on clothing, opportunities to earn free or discounted merchandise based on performance

Cons

Employees at my location (Miami International Mall) were always forced to stay later than their shift. I usually stayed around 3 hours past my scheduled end time, and the only time I got out of it was when I expressed how very necessary it was that I leave so I could make it to my university classes or finals. I was only given breaks twice in the 9 months I worked there, and only because we weren't meeting the hourly $$$ quota, so they didn't want to pay any more for extra employees if they could squeeze in an unpaid break instead. I got in trouble for coming in 10 minutes early once, instead of right on the dot, because they didn't want to have to pay for that extra 10 minutes, even though the store was packed and I could have hopped on register and helped out immediately. I was hired in September 2015 and told I would get an evaluation and raise in January. I stayed until May 2016 and even though I brought up the evaluation and raise multiple times, neither of these transpired and I remained on minimum wage the entire time. Our location was spoken to multiple times by the mall police who said that management was NOT to keep us working as late into the night as they did; we were folding and re-folding clothes, etc. from 10pm to 2am every closing shift. My last week I had housing issues and did not have a place to stay in Miami, and so I asked that I be off for that week, since I had no choice but to stay with family elsewhere in Florida that week before I could return to Miami the following week. My boss looked at me and responded, "Can you come in early tomorrow morning?" I quit after that. Express as a company does not care about their employees. They care about fast fashion and profits. Management, at least in my location, is so obsessed with making the company look good that they dismiss laws and police interactions and the welfare of their employees.
