Pros

Great pay. Good benefits.

Cons

I was brought onboard with 10+ years experience in a certain IT role and my position was described as a system architect -- I was advised that the company was in the middle of a big relocation effort and I would be integral in planning this move as well as policy implementation moving forward. I was also told that working remotely would not be an issue as the rest of my team was located halfway across the country and I'd be the only person on my team in my office. I was really excited to bring my skill set to the table and begin work, which lasted for about a week. I've been at Express Scripts for approximately three months now, and still have not been provided the system access required for me to do my job. Nobody can explain why it has not transpired and it greatly inhibits my ability to work, there has been a ticket requesting this access in since before I started in July. There is no real training, when members of my team had time they'd conference me in and let me watch them do certain tasks at which point I was expected to understand the process. There is no centralized documentation and every single department fights with other departments that need to get along in order to move forward. Express Scripts is an enormous, poorly-engineered Rube Goldberg machine that ends up throwing marbles all over the floor. Management is a joke, my hiring manager who made all of the promises to me was unceremoniously moved to an other team within a month of me being at the company and now our team is managed by some exec who is remote to not only me, but all the rest of my team as well and has not so much as introduced himself since becoming our manager. He has no idea how any of the process for my department works, I don't know what management really DOES, but it seems like a terrible idea to replace the experienced manager with some faceless exec a few weeks into bringing on three new team members who are not trained whatsoever. Long story short, I have been absolutely miserable every single day since a week into my employment. The pay is absolutely not worth it, the company is completely mismanaged and I have no idea how they manage to stay in the Fortune 20 other than the fact that healthcare as an industry is completely screwed. Beware.

Pros

Environment was flexible and i could work at home if needed. Employee/co-workers were all top rate individuals.

Cons

Company wasn't opposed to laying off quality employees. They would call workers when the were on vacation. They would take away vacation at the last minute. They always asked last minute for people to work a weekend and people were frowned upon if they did not volunteer.

Pros

Work from Home (if over 30 miles from office) Acceptable Pay Good Benefits

Cons

No Work-Life Balance No Integrity from Leadership Ludicrous Workloads Poor Use of Technology and Personnel Terrible Communication Up and Down the Organziation Culture of Pain A friend of mine gave me some advice about job hunting a few years ago: "Always show up to your interview about thirty minutes early," he said. "Watch the people walking around the building. If more than half look miserable, walk out." I wished I'd remembered his advice when I interviewed with this company. From the first interview until the day I escaped I'd never seen a more sullen workplace in my two decades in IT. It was a pit of despair. There are multiple reasons for the morale issues: Talented, capable engineers worked a ridiculous number of hours per week. Putting in anything under 45 hours per week was considered slacking." Exempt employees were treated as if the company owned all of their time. (One of my colleagues had to call into a meeting from the Emergency Room where they'd taken a family member because our supervisor insisted that they had to be part of the call. They didn't.) Lip service was given to career paths and progression, but action never followed. Training was non-existent. Technology was outdated, and poorly-implemented. Leadership re-organizations were constant. (I had six bosses in four years.) There was no real sense of job security... I could write pages about the things I've experienced and witnessed in my four years, but that would waste my time and yours. Bottom line: ESI is not a company that I could recommend to my professional colleagues. Indeed, I warned more than a few away. Until I here otherwise from my former colleagues who are still sadly with the firm, I'll continue to do so.
