I love It but

Pros

Never come in to the same day twice and the customers are amazing. Most of the upper management really cares about the employees, and want to make a great work culture. I’ve been with ESS for more than 10 years and the growth has been amazing. We really are the best at getting better.

Cons

For me the work/home life is not balanced the way that I would like in order to hav me an influence with my child the way I would like. The pay is also ridiculous, and a multi billion dollar company like ESS should really pay more and for the long term employees we are only now making what people just being hired are making which is again ridiculous. For ESS to continue to grow and have the talent it needs the pay will have to be addressed immediately.

A solid place to work

Pros

The bosses really care about you and always ask what they can do for you to make sure you are doing okay. They encourage you to be open about any feelings you are having personal or professional. They also love growth in the company and encourage you to move up in the company, and are happy when you want to. Everyone in your district is also very wiling and able to give you a hand and help you in any way they can. The job itself is also very interesting, encompassing a lot of different tasks that you have to perform, and there is always something to do, and there are hardly any days where you are bored or you looking for something to do.

Cons

One small downside is that you do have to work 8 hour days on Saturday, which is a little vexing, but not too bad. But the main downside of working at Extra Space is the compensation. Sometimes when the days are long and you have 100 things to do while trying to rent to customer's, it does feel like we are inadequately compensated. For instance, I have to pay a lot of different bills every month. I just graduated college and am paying a student loan payment: I pay rent to my brother every month, I have a huge credit card bill, I pay for my phone, car insurance, utilities, etc. Some weeks I am barely squeaking by, and I am not able to put any money away for savings most weeks. For example, If I get into a car wreck, I'll be in a lot of trouble, because I have no way of paying for another car, unless I accrue more debt, which I don't want to do. I know my situation could be a lot worse and I'm not looking for pity, only being transparent. Also I am aware I'm still pretty new to the company. I'm only saying if I got paid just a few more dollars an hour it would save me a lot of worry.
