One day, my manager asked me to prepare a resignation letter, without a clear reason. My performance is not bad, I was promoted half a year ago. Besides, my green card application is being processed -- it's called PERM Advertising. I definitely can't leave the company. The ad has been published for 1 year, I heard it's almost done. I don't get a bonus, the green card is my only hope.
Later, I asked for a few days off, just a few since there are not too many paid time off. I consulted a lawyer, she said my manager can't force me to quit, even though it's a "free will" hire in the contract. Instead, I should wait for being laid off as I will get a big package for it. Besides, I am a minority -- well, it's the first time I realized being a minority is an advantage.
I came back to the office, asking for an internal transfer. I knew a manager from the holiday party last month. She has one head-count left.
In the end, I stayed there for 6 more months, until our branch is closed. I didn't choose to relocate to the headquarter, so I can't get the laid-off package.
I still didn't finish the advertising, since the old version has a defect, and we had to do it again.
