Pros

Great benefits (retirement and health) Good pay for industry, especially for nonprofits Amazing mission Staff who deeply care about their work, and are committed to the people they serve

Cons

Provincial, unsophisticated management team incompatible with the business of running a global business Score keeping and “zero-some game” management culture leads to backstabbing and information hoarding, while rewarding sycophantic behavior Drain of talent since acquisition of AED (of both FHI and AED legacy staff); new organization has greatly reduced ability to deliver a quality product in many sectors HR environment at FHI 360 is disorganized, unhelpful and inconsistent. Policies vary between legacy AED and FHI staff despite the organization operating as one company (some policies are not even posted for employees to view).

Pros

An organization that combines health and development. Commitment to excellence and evidence based programming. FHI, before the acquisition, enjoyed an excellent reputation.

Cons

Very hierarchical and enterprise service oriented organization that eclipses the technical work. A punitive, not fostering, approach to staff development. Organizational values are clearly on revenues/"sales" Rigid, and also confusing systems and directives, make it nearly impossible to work out of one standard funding/programming scenario. Constant re-organization Very inefficient use of donor resources; high overheads

Pros

Good mission Talented staff Extensive presence in the field Good compensation and excellent benefits, though benefits seem to be on the decline

Cons

CEO, board, and senior management completely out of touch Bloated at the top with many senior staff receiving high salaries without contributing to projects or bringing in new funding High overhead Constant reorganizations over the last 5 years with frequent changes in senior staff, systems, and policies Poor leadership with no clear vision Merit increase process doesn’t work; people are not held accountable for their work
