Pros
FMI has taken big steps to improve culture and overall morale. The CEO that has been here for less than two years realized a happy workforce is a productive workforce and started putting pieces in place to improve things here at the plant. A big part of that is the team he has built around him, many of which we don’t get to see but we know a difference is being made because its seen in the profits the company is making. Three team members we do get to see are the Production, Engineering, and EHS Managers. The changes and effort these three have put in would make anyone want to work here. They have also built great teams that I directly get the benefit from. I like to come to work again, I want to see what is next. What we do here is a direct benefit to the country and its safety and I find that pretty cool. Things I touch protect my family and friends. Things I work on also go into space that’s rewarding.
Cons
Reading other comments, it is hard to deny one of the cons of FMI. The constant black cloud hanging over our great company is the Human Resources Department. I don’t feel like this is the typical bad rap human resources gets at most companies because of the nature of the job. This goes deeper with a pat of bad culture and bad hires for the department. I have worked for companies of 300-500 employees and I have never seen a company with this many HR representatives. It’s a 4/40 ratio that’s insane when you look at what they claim they don’t have time to do. I believe all of them are good people it is mostly a lack of leadership. When you have members of leadership that roll their eyes and make comments about employees that will drive down morale. I have been told by my manager that HR is responsible for individual development plans. This concerns me because I can a department that has done nothing to develop better habits or team members help me grow. I must believe though that this is being seen on a higher level. Our CEO is very progressive and I am confident he has a plan to address this issue. Until the issue is addressed, we will plateau in or progress.
