Unless you are a lawyer...watch out

For lawyers, they make sure you are well-developed and well-supported, and everyone all but worships the ground you walk on. Decent benefits, retirement, financial advisors, etc.

Cons

They trample on anyone providing service to the lawyers "the real humans". Service positions, such as admin, or catering, or IT, etc. were treated with disdain and offered very little job growth or enhancement. Additionally, number 1 in their books is loyalty, so you could be extremely talented but never be rewarded until you had been there 20 years. I had a lot of highly technical skills but still made less in computer services than a woman who still used a type writer....

Great firm, great clients

Pros

Challenging work, great clients, fantastic lawyers and senior management. Paralegals are given relative freedom over their schedules and autonomy over their work. Better than most large law firms in the area.

Cons

No job ladder. Typical law firm where the bottom line is billable hours. In recent years, the firm has joined the "process improvement" bandwagon, which has been painful in those cases where the project manager has been inept at managing people.

I made friends, who are long gone. Decent health benefits.

Cons

Worked to the bone with no advancement or bonuses. Attorneys are very harsh and egomaniacal. Micromanaged.
