Bad working environment

Pros

The Pay is ok, benefits are average. The main offices in MN are downtown.

Cons

The working environment is not good at all. Managing partners demand 100% perfection and operations management has no power to say no to them. The technology in use, particularly the applications, are so old the act of maintaining them is 1 part archeology on 15 year old forum posts, 1 part prayer, and 8 parts playing CYA so you won't be blamed when the inevitable happens. Work life balance, at least in IT, doesn't exist. You are on call effectively 24/7/365 and you will be written up if you aren't available, even on your time off when not on call.

Faegre Drinker Response

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback; it is valuable to help us understand where there are opportunities for improvement. It is true the Firm values high levels of performance. Additionally, we consider excellent service to our internal and external clients a cornerstone of our culture. We believe every interaction with Faegre Baker Daniels should leave clients (and employees) feeling heard, helped, and respected. We are sorry to hear this was not your experience. Technology organization leaders have many plans for process improvement and recognize there are opportunities to upgrade some of our systems. For more than a year, dedicated project teams have worked on upgrades to bring new technology capability to the Firm in 2018. While many IT roles require regular on-call work to support the technological needs of the Firm, we also value work-life balance. We have introduced generous paid time off, telecommuting, as well as opportunities for flexible scheduling in response to those concerns. We are open to hearing ideas from employees about additional ways to promote a healthy balance between work and personal life. It is the mission of the Talent Services organization at Faegre Baker Daniels to work together to create a positive and rewarding work environment by attracting, developing, and retaining diverse employees who are engaged in the success of our business and our presence in the community. We are disappointed to hear this was not reflected in your time with the Firm. If you would like to share more feedback on how we can improve, please reach out to us at 612-766-7000 and ask to speak with Camille Gross, HR Specialist.

Pros

Treated very well, especially for this industry.

Cons

If I had to have a "con" it would be the strict hours - but the nature of the job demands that, more than the company.

Pros

The lawyers and staff are professional, friendly, and many a genuinely nice. Culture depends on what office you are in. There seems to be a better work-life balance compared to other white shoe firms. Relatively laid-back culture. The firm has a great health care practice and government regulations practice. They pay a lot of attention to training new associates.

Cons

Firm lacks clear direction and is not very good at communicating it's vision. They are not very good at providing ongoing feedback to staff. More political than most places I've worked at. Marketing department is very dysfunctional at the moment and is going through a very challenging period of transition. Firm does not value it's talent or does not seem to recognize good talent when they have it. Generally operates in silos--between offices, within practice groups and even between and within departments. They're trying to be more cohesive but current processes fall short and some people get burned.
