I worked in Ministry Relations going to events and presenting the software, and I absolutely loved this job and it was very disappointing to be laid off with absolutely no warning. Especially as my department had recently issued all new gear, taken a week to bring all outside sales reps in for training and we were all excited to start a new year. The first year, of working for the company my manager was in way over his head and lacked basic leadership and organizational skills. Upper leadership finally responded and fired him, but it took a long time and was a real emotional roller coaster waiting for him to be replaced. When he was finally replaced it took time for things to be corrected but I was really excited about where things were going when half of the team was suddenly laid off. Since I was laid off and many of the new hires from the past couple of months were kept on I can only imagine that the company was looking to save cash because the newer people might have been hired at a lower salary? Travel schedule was grueling and we often went to events where there was little chance to succeed due to the audience. There was a lot of pressure to sell, and the people who were not always ethical in their sales practices are the ones who seem to do well in Ministry Relations. Very few are hired for their knowledge of the software and though I used the software and had a very strong knowledge I felt it was not valued.
