Get used to stress

Pros

Pros depend on the department. Sales and content services seem to have more luck with leadership. Editorial does have a huge team branching into many multi-media options.

Cons

Too much stress. Managers, especially on the editorial side, expect you to work at nearly all hours and while on PTO. 60+ hour weeks are the norm. While the merger with Vance Publishing was difficult, managers continue the divide. No transparency (some get bonuses while others don't even get a raise). No one seems to care about work/life balance or communicating issues. Work evironment quickly becomes healthy. Burn out is common. There are too many VPs and too little communication. Any respect I had for Farm Journal as a brand is gone.

Pros

Farm Journal is well respected in Agriculture and had some talented employees that are part of the community they serve.

Cons

Culture needs improvement--top down management approach and does not listen to employees very well. This is a very meeting heavy culture.

We are so sad to see this review! We have worked really hard to create opportunities for promotion and growth at The Farm. This year alone, we've promoted nearly 10 individual contributors into advanced and leadership roles. For a company our size, that is significant! We'd love to work with you on your goals for advancement. Please reach out to HR directly. Thanks.
