Pros

The company is growing, and with that, you have access to really cool projects in which because of the small teams, you can play a big role during design. The diversity of projects is really surprising for the size of firm, and is really a great start to a career. At a personal level, everyone is really friendly and welcoming. never had issues with coworkers.

Cons

When you're in the process of starting your career, your employer plays a big part of your development, which means supporting you with workshops, mentorship, or simply paying for you to attend seminar and trainings. At Farnsworth, there is very little support for young professionals and aid when you are looking at growing. Even though they offer tuition reimbursement, its a big fat lie that when you request information, it'll be months before you hear an very complex and elaborated answer that can be condensate to a "no". The pay is decent, and definitely less than the competition, given that engineers are in high demand at this point in time and other companies are able to offer better pay , benefits and BONUSES! Pay is only for 40 hours, yet most of the folks in the office are wired to work for more than that, it's become company culture to work longer. There is no compensation for working more than the 40 hours, and at no point are those extra hours accounted or used to gage the size of your bonus. My first bonus was a couple of hundred dollars, even after a spent a few weeks working until 8pm! A simple "Thanks for helping out" was given to me after the end of the week. Raises are a struggle, and so difficult to achieve as you usually get a whole speech about how bad times are and how they just cant really pay you more. Management can be blinded by the workload and neglect employees, especially when it comes to appreciating employees and what they are doing for the team. Higher leaders are very conservative and old school, and are reluctant to change. Everything is rune as if it was a company from the 80s/90s, when they expected employee loyalty over everything. Principals, high level leaders and HR can be blind as to how employees really feel, and use the "Great Place to Work" as a badge of honor that hides a lot of employee discomfort and negligence to the needs of their employees. Take consideration of the more honest reviews, and not those fake 5 star reviews that try to cover up the mess that lies within the company.

Pros

Office can be enjoyable atmosphere, not overly strict like my previous firm. Will allow casual chat with co-workers, most of which are good people!

Cons

Management very clearly rewards age, not loyalty or work ethic. Employees that have been with the company less than a couple years and are above 45 yrs old get offered stakeholder shares while long term employees in their 30s have lower pay and less recognition. Older employees also are brought in at higher positions, often having younger employees train them on systems they are supposed to be competent in.

Pros

Accumulate hotel points due to extensive amount of travel. Good entry job out of college. Work remotely without a supervisor looking over your shoulder. Hourly wage for this position is roughly 28$/hr with 50$ per diem a day you can pocket while in the field.

Cons

Expect to be with the company no more than 2 years. You will be used as a pawn and will be stuck in a hotel traveling to job sites early each morning 95% of the time. This position is the most profitable within the Company/ Oil and Gas Division. Most people will be hired on temporarily for 1 or 2 projects, then cut. Bottom line is this. the company makes no money by having you sit in the office. You will be thrown into the field for weeks/months at a time. Farnsworth will try to limit you traveling back and forth from home via air travel/Work truck(they will pay for it or charge client typically). Once spring rolls around the new wave of college recruits come pouring out. Instead of giving a raise where its due to a current Pipeline engineer (having put a year in the field or more..), Farnsworth will terminate you and train a new recruit fresh out of college. This position helps keep the company afloat. They will not have fully licensed engineer out in the field filling this roll. This is due to the profit margins. Cheap labor. 60-80 hour weeks will be the norm. You will be sitting inside a truck watching people labor for 10-12 hours a day. These laborers grow envy of this clean cut college kid sitting in a truck watching them all day. Making notes. Everyone you will be working with on these sites is familiar with how Farnsworth employees operate and why they are there. In other words, they will try to walk over you and run you off site in many cases. Remember your expendable. Too many complaints on site and Farnsworth says bye bye. Good first job out of college. No room for advancement in this position. Farnsworth has all their eggs in one basket. 1 major client. Magellan Midstream Partners. This is due to an internal friendship between 2 old college friends. Oil and Gas division will suffer greatly if Magellan finds a cheaper alternative. We overcharge for our services. The services this position delivers to client is elementary and can be done with any savvy onsite inspector.......If anyone at Magellan has made it this far into my review....Cut costs and start training the Inspectors to handle Pilot Hole calculations. Its simple and I have ran across a handful of Inspectors with the insight knowledge with Excel tabulations to formulate everything. This position may indeed be fizzled out in the years ahead.....Skills grow static and you will compartmentalized in the position.

We appreciate and value your feedback as a former employee at Farnsworth Group. We are sorry your time with us did not meet your expectations. Our field technicians and inspectors are valued members of the Farnsworth Group team. The firm always employs a small number of temporary employees that are assigned to short-term projects. Once completed, those employees are often reassigned to other projects which can lead to full-time employment. Our valued clients typically dictate the level of experience they require for their field projects including degreed or non-degreed staff and specific skillsets needed. As part of Farnsworth Group’s interview process, candidates are informed about the need to travel, length of workdays, work schedules and compensation levels including bonus awards. These project opportunities provide great experience for new college graduates looking to gain a start in the engineering field. Farnsworth Group is defined by our people and our core values. We are proud that Farnsworth Group’s employees have earned us the ‘Great Place to Work’ certification for four consecutive years based on extensive employee surveys focused on culture, benefits and leadership. Again, thank you for your feedback as we always strive to make Farnsworth Group an even greater place to work.
