Pros

Pros of working for Fast include challenging work which includes the satisfaction of knowing we are working to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of government agencies which contributes to an overall increase in the quality of life for the communities each government serves; opportunities for professional and personal growth while working on a project team as well as with government officials; exceptional benefits; great salary; and opportunities to travel.

Cons

Cons of working for Fast include expectations to work a lot of overtime and to relocate with little notice or choice of location. For some people, the ambiguity of where you may be living is more of a con than it is for others. The fact that overtime is paid in addition to salary also makes the overtime work less of a con for some.

Pros

You're given a lot of responsibility out of the gate. However, you're not sent to New-Hire training until a month or so after you start. While this can make the month a bit stressful, you learn what you can on your own. That makes it so you can pick up more during the training and can ask more detailed questions that are more likely to help you back on site. Great compensation and benefits; best health insurance plan I've seen a company provide in years. AGM is a great way to keep connected with the friends that you meet on site that may be relocated. Very open communication with the partners. It was strange at first to be able to email an owner of the company for questions, but they are all very personable and approachable. They're also willing to go out of their way to help you succeed.

Cons

Overtime required around rollouts can be long, but you're compensated well for the extra time that you put in. Management also makes it enjoyable; weekly provided dinners, weekend activities, etc...

Pros

The pay is good, they hire pretty cool people for the most part, so it's easy to get along with everyone. It is a cool job if you want to travel around the United States for really long periods of time. Most of the employees are young, recent college grads which makes a high energy atmosphere. There is a semi-vacation every year taken by the whole company which is cool.

Cons

The cons definitely outweigh the pros. The hours are extremely long sometimes (most of the time). I'm talking mandatory 10, 11, 12 hour days. And a lot of weekends. When you aren't working, Fast holds a lot of get togethers outside of work, all of which involve drinking. If you don't like to drink, you will be the odd man out. Time off can be difficult to get sometimes. Some sites are worse than others, it depends a lot on the project manager and the other Fasties on the site. The technology you learn is very proprietary, and my programming skills have definitely gotten worse since I've been with fast. Visual Basic and SQL are pretty much it.
