Pros

Great benefits, acquired skills that most would have to pay for. FedEx _____ looks great on a resume. Stable, prestigious company to work for. I advanced quickly in the early years of FedEx Office by working hard and being successful. Yes, there are lots of opportunities for advancement....

Cons

...Lots of opportunities for advancement now if you talk the talk or have earned "favorite" status by a superior. People with the required skills and intelligence or proven track record of success are rarely promoted or hired into middle/senior leadership. Those positions are generally rewarded to individuals who have waited for years or decades for a spot to open, or talk a big game. The management advancement game is very political and driven by unprofessional goofballs. The pay is absolutely not competitive. Stop telling us that it's "competitive for like retail jobs." Pretending that FedEx Office is a "retail job" is disingenuous and insulting. There is so much to learn here and so much to be responsible at any given time. Raises are a joke, and to even get one you have to outperform. You say it's "OK to have an area that needs improvement" on an annual performance appraisal, yet when one does it bars them from promotion or raise opportunities.

Pros

The benefits were great! Different projects every day keep you on your toes and not bored. Have the opportunity to learn a lot of skills really quickly that are simple and commonplace to you, but make you look like a genius to other people.

Cons

I was paid $2 less an hour than my less experienced male peers and told to not rock the boat when I asked to have my pay raised to be equal. When another male coworker slapped my butt while I was in the middle of training a new team member, I got a pat on the head, a sorry and a shrug, and nothing happened to the coworker. Management is a boys club. They hire great assistant managers, overwork them, and dangle upward mobility in front of their faces and then take out their knees. Good managers with potential to do great things get run off and leave behind ineffectual managers that are unconcerned about their employees and doing much else besides cashing their checks.

Pros

Awesome people to work with. I've been around for 8+ years and worked with almost all the stores in the Portland area. Good co workers will make your job bearable and enjoyable. Fairly easy to get promoted if you show the initiative however the actual opportunities will dead end after you get a center management position, unless you really get lucky and land a regional position. Tuition reimbursement is amazing if you're going to school for a degree, as they'll pay up to $1500/yr for undergrad courses and $2500/yr for grad courses.

Cons

Tons of stress, this job can turn some people into habitual smokers. Corporate office is more focused on selling items that no one really wants to buy, at a print shop of all places, and forces those metrics onto all it's employees, giving anyone who doesn't sell a certain amount per day a write up. Stores are chronically understaffed because they try to save as much money as possible, rather than understanding that you cant have two employees running a store when it's the shipping rush hour, and you have people who need copies done, faxes sent and 10 different packages shipped, all in the course of 5 minutes.
