      This is a place to serve. You need to really want to make a difference, and if you're lucky, you can.

      Cons

      FHWA is a technical agency, but they don't realize it. They are failing in producing and retaining leaders who are technically competent and able to bridge technical know-how and policy. Right now this agency is ALL policy and technical know how is often seen as a nuisance by upper management. Upper middle management are so focused on their own advancement they are almost never able to plan ahead

      work life balance is fantastic. flexible schedules, incentives, no corporate bs. lots of people passionate about national parks and forests.

      not a fully remote role and don't see this as an option

      Pros

      While the organization is great, the one knock I have is that this is an engineering agency and if you aren't a civil engineer, you are at a distinct disadvantage.

      Cons

      Favoritism, reverse discrimination, if you are ultra liberal you are on the outside looking in.
