Pros

Pay is good and coworkers in the cafe are nice.

Cons

No self respecting person should work here. Upper management is a joke does not care about their employees at all. Every single promise from upper management has been empty and 90% of things they tell you are lies. The communication within the company is basically nonexistent and if you try to reach out about incorrect orders recieved you are blamed and berated by the bakery staff. The owners pick very obvious favorite baristas and cafes and they make it extremely clear to anyone who is not a favorite that they do not matter to them at all. One of the owners will show up right before close and demand you stay open for him an extra hour. The pay is great, yes, but it is truly not worth the mental toll. There is also no holiday pay and you 100% will not get the hours you are promised :) Don’t work here if you like being treated like a person and not a commodity.

Not Worth It

Pros

Most of the coworkers were genuinely nice people. Customers were nice for the most part. Lots of hours due to lack of adequate staffing.

Cons

Often shifts will be with you or one other person and you are expected to keep the entire place sparkling clean while also making every customer happy. There were times when the line was out the door for hours at a time and the manager refused to come in and help me. Management does not communicate well with the employees at all and gets mad when you don’t know any updates they have implemented. Fiddleheads makes the baristas at all locations work alone for hours at night and do not provide you with any sense of security. They also do not handle HR complaints in a professional way at all. While they advertise as a family company, they do not care about your safety or wellbeing at all. The pay is so little for what they expect you to do. Know your worth. If you want to work at a coffee shop, I guarantee any other place would be better. The people in management do not know how to effectively run the business!

Pros

Pay is okay Fellow baristas are awesome

Cons

People get fired constantly for seemingly no reason (one girl even was pregnant), they aren't really "family focused" moreso corporate and uninvolved in daily operations. They don't care about the well being of the baristas, you constantly get blamed for the prices even though it's not in our control, and overall it's tense and drama filled. I don't recommend. Scheduling is all over the place and I clopened at least once a week.

Unfortunately, we have seen the issue that you are describing in cafés without consistent and good management. Our interim café manager, and talent team are working to connect with the team and our hiring manager has found a great candidate to step in as the Shorewood cafe's permanent café manager. We do care and do show involvement- there are many behind the scenes tasks we do to keep our employees happy and the cafes running smoothly.
