Project Controls - Poor Culture, No growth opportunities
Pros
Decent benefits. Work from home in some instances.
Cons
This role was previously an hourly & OT non-exempt position with per diem prior to a full department layoff that modified it to salary exempt. This of course meant reduced compensation, fewer FTEs, increased work load, additional responsibilities, and more hours. In peak seasons you may work 70-80 hours while supporting multiple outages and are expected to work weekends and holidays. The impressively high, nearly fast-food level attrition rate leads to projects being passed along to remaining staff. Senior talent and anyone who appreciates a decent work-life balance or better compensation has already left. The role and work itself can be tedious and reporting is expected on a daily basis - support hours per project can vary substantially. There are no conveyed career path, education, or growth opportunities. There is onsite presence required for some outages which means you'll get the call and need to travel across the country for potentially months at a time - your incentive is straight time over 40 hours (this incentive does not apply to remote support).
